Foe vs Friend

What is a friend? How would you define a friend? What are the characteristics of a friend?

In my personal opinion, a friend is an individual that is trusted, close, reliable, honest and understanding. Normally a friend would have some common interest with you. This would be a bonus as you can create an instant bond. More topics to talk about. But having a conflict in interest will not be an issue, as a friendship is not just based on common interest.

A real good friend would be there for you through good and bad times without expecting anything in return. Friendship is not something that you measure. From my personal understanding, in a friendship you would always put yourself in others shoes before you make an option.

Friendship is no competition. It is just the love and how much you treasure the friend and the friendship you have. The more friends the merrier.

A true friend would be there for you in good times and bad times. A friend would be there with any obligations. Normally you can spot a genuine friend during your bad times. Whether their there for you or not. Sometimes a friend isn’t even someone you turn to for advice but more of comfort and just a hearing ear or a crying shoulder.

A true friend would defend you when you are not around or when someone is saying bad things about you. They would not make up stories or talk behind your back.

An awesome friendship would be based on honesty and respect. Have you good what it takes to be a great friend? Or do you have a great friend?

The Shoe Sin

I wrote this very first fashion article of mine during my days at QUT when I took a subject called Fashion and Style Journalism. The class was just awesome. We published our very own fashion magazine. So here is the article I wrote.

The Shoe Sin

Every woman looks great wearing high heels, and every woman feels sexy in them. High heels are adored, cherished, desired and wanted by women. It is a compulsive addiction that is fetishized by women. Women idolize glamorous celebrities who are highly fashionable and they are always in high heels, as it instantly jazz up an outfit.

Though killer high heels can create an instant uplift to an outfit, this pair of shoes brings so much discomfort to the wearer. But the question is “Why do women wear high heels?”

I conducted a survey among my friends and in results to it they said they wear high heels to accentuate their legs. High heels create an illusion of slimmer, slender and lengthen their legs. Hence, they appear taller and lankier.

Men are also a culprit for making women suffer in high heels. In a man’s opinion, women appear sexier and more appealingly seducing in high heels. This is due to the persona of raw sexual appeal. Women would go to an extreme to please men. So they will wear the ridiculous high heels just to impress.

A fashionista would still wear high heels though they know that there are consequences to wearing them. This is because they have a mindset that says “Fashion has its price”. High heel wearers look like they have tiny dainty feet. It makes them appear feminine.

Sexually enhanced posture and added height provides empowerment for high heel wearers and conveys an autonomous and feminine message to the society. It also boosts a more pronounced and curved breasts and a fuller rounder butt. It also contracts the calves of the wearer. Wearing high heels also enhance the back bone as it does not allow wearers to slouch. High heels emphasize all the aspects that are considered to belong to a woman’s physical sexual attributes. It creates a level of authority, feminine power and independence.

High heels may be something that all fashionistas or women in general go nuts about but it also brings short term and many long term effects to its wearer. When a woman wears high heels, she loses her balances as her center of gravity is displaced and it makes her walk weirdly. It can cause sprain or a broken ankle.

High heals also redistribute your weight, creating unnatural pressure points and throwing your body’s natural alignment out of whack. High heels also make you walk with your legs sprawling outwards like a duck. High heels also generally forces u to stand up straight to keep your balance while wearing it.

“Bridging” occurs when the heel is raised from the ball of the feet during the period of wearing high heels. The lack of mid-foot support can cause arch problems. Foot that is lifted and resting on a downward slope puts a lot of pressure on the toes especially the big toe. This symptom is known as the fore-and-aft slippage that encourages calluses under the ball of the foot or the large toe. A woman’s stride and skin friction while walking determines how bad a calluses is. If it gets worst it turns into corns.

Another long-term side-effect would be the Achilles’ tendon, this is when the tendon is inflamed due to pressure and rubbing of the heel cup against the tendon. Not only does it cause inflammation of the tendon but it can also cause shortening of the tendon and hamstrings. This is thanks to the reduced angle at the ankle. Tendons shrink when they aren’t stretched regularly. Foot deformation can occur due to excessive usage of high heels. If you think this is just it, you are wrong. High heels are also linked to knee arthritis and back problems. High heels can also increase neck problems and also muscle cramp around the whole body especially the thighs and the back. High heel wearing also hurts the pelvic area and the lower back.

High heels can lead to ugly foot development such as corns, bunions, calluses, hammertoes and claw toe. Other than that it could also bring negative impact towards bone injury.

High heels are the biggest leading factor of foot problem among women. Women also have a higher tendency of getting foot problem compared to men. As women go on wearing their beloved high heels, their foot hurts. It gets worst as women starts to age.

It’s said that “Women may `wear’ slippers, `put on’ sneakers and `slip into’ loafers, but they `dress’ in high heels”.

So to all fashion conscious women out there, high heels does make you appear taller, sexier and more confident but it also brings nasty long term effects. It’s all in your hands to slip into what shoe is the best for you. But if I were you, I’d wear high heels for special occasions while the rest I’d wear flat shoes or slightly shorter heels.

A Story About Love

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. A day for people to declare their love for one another or even to come out from their shell and tell their secret someone that they have a crush on them.

I am not a big fan of valentine’s to be honest. I don’t get the big hype of it. To me, if you love someone truly…everyday is a day to declare love. Why is it that on this particular day only you buy your loved ones a special gift? What happened to all the other days? were they not special enough on those other days?

I took a different spin for this year’s valentine’s day. I pampered myself with pure retail therapy. A denim high waisted skirt and a pleated high waisted skirt from MNG. A studded scarf from MNG. Denim shorts from Roxy. So many new clothes with no where to go. Sigh. That’s exactly how I am. Loads of fabulous clothes just taking up space in my cupboard. Hehe. Maybe one day, I’ll be able to parade them.

Oh yes, back to the lovey dovey day. I saw a lot of couples walking hand in hand today. Looks sweet and cute but there were some who were doing it because it is the day.

Anyways, we shall see what happen for Valentine’s 2010. Perhaps my paradigm has changed by then. Who knows?

Happy V-day all!

Weight Issues

I am 157cm and I weigh below 40kg. Yes, I am indeed underweight. I am featherlight. I have weight issues.

I wish I was at least 40kg, all gleefully round and happy. But gaining weight is a big challenge to me. I come from a family of super slim people. Both my parents are slim and so are my two brothers. It is painful for us siblings as we really want to put on weight. But it is all in the genes.

A few years back, I had myself examine as I really wanted to know if there is something wrong with me. The doctor assured me that I was perfectly healthy just that I have hyperactive saliva and a very high metabolism rate. Thus that explains why I am always hungry. To prove that I do digest fast, try seating on my seat after I have sat on it a little why. You’d find the seat a bit hot. That shows that am digesting.

Since it is the new year, I wish to gain more weight. Therefore, I am already on my 6th bottle of soybean protein weight gain aid. Wish me luck people. Haha.

Actually, the remedy for me to gain weight is by being a slob. Eat, sleep, eat, sleep. Stress and lack of rest and sleep makes me lose weight in a blink of an eye.

So, I will try to rest more and eat more in order to gain my dream weight. I miss playing dress up now. Cause I am so insecure of my weight. It’s not easy being tiny. People always say nasty things to you. Some would even say you’re an anorexic. It hurts.

To gaining weight. Make me happy through my tummy and I’ll be yummy.
